In 2026, Spencer returns to Santa Fe Opera as Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte and sings Pang in Pacific Opera Project’s Turandot. He joins the Santa Fe Symphony as tenor soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana and the New England Philharmonic for Penderecki’s Credo. The tenor’s 2027 engagements include Pong in Turandot and Courtier 1 in Brett Dean’s Of One Blood with the Santa Fe Opera. He returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Major Domo I in Der Rosenkavalier.
In the 2025 season, Spencer Hamlin took the stage at the Metropolitan Opera, delivering a nuanced performance as Spoletta in Tosca and covering the role of First Jew in Salome. He garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of Pablo in the world premiere of Daniel Asia and Paul Pines’ Tin Angel with Teatro Grattacielo. Hamlin’s turn as the Captain in West Edge Opera’s Wozzeck earned him praise from the San Francisco Chronicle, which noted his “comic agility” in revealing the character’s underlying cowardice. He was thetenor soloist in Verdi’s Defiant Requiem with the York Symphony and made a memorable debut as Goro in Madama Butterfly with Lyric Opera of Kansas City.
Hamlin’s appearances in 2024 included Salt Marsh Opera for multiple roles in The Child and the Spells, York Symphony for Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2, Lobgesang, returned to Santa Fe Opera to sing the role of the Innkeeper and cover Valzacchi in Der Rosenkavalier and sang Spoletta in Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera. He was tenor soloist in Waterbury Chorale’s Beethoven Mass in C and Choral Fantasy and sang Carmina Burana with the University of Connecticut.
In 2023, Spencer made his Metropolitan Opera debut singing the Marschallin’s Major-Domo in Der Rosenkavalier. That same season he debuted at the Santa Fe Opera as Spoletta in Tosca and sang Poulenc’s Messa di Gloria with the York Symphony and Three Tenors! The Next Generation with the Vallejo Festival Orchestra. The 2022 season saw Spencer as Mr. Angel in The Impresario with Syracuse Opera, Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Alfredo Germont in La traviata with Opera Theater of Connecticut. He debuted several roles in NYCO’s premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon’s The Garden of the Finzi-Continis, sang Il Cantatore in verismo masterpiece Giulietta et Romeo with Teatro Grattacielo, returned to Odyssey Opera as Albert in Rachmaninoff’s The Miserly Knight, joined Tulsa Opera as Second Nazarene in Salome, debuted with Salt Marsh Opera as Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi and The Defendant in and Trial by Jury, and returned to NYCO for All Is Calm.
In 2021 Spencer sang Monostatos in The Magic Flute and Ruiz in Il Trovatore at the Glimmerglass Festival. He sang Don José in a virtual production of Carmen with Brooklyn College Conservatory and was a soloist in Playhouse on Park’s filmed production of All is Calm.
Notable roles include Tchekalinsky in Pique Dame, Bégearss in The Ghosts of Versailles, Il principe di Persia in Turandot, Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Detective Thibodeau in the New York premiere of Tobias Picker’s Dolores Claiborne, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Tonio in La fille du régiment, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Judge Danforth in The Crucible, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, The Witch in Hansel and Gretel, the title role in Albert Herring, Henrik in A Little Night Music, and Laurie in Little Women.
Additional concert appearances include Mozart’s Requiem and Bruckner’s Te Deum with the Waterbury Chorale, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria with the York Symphony as well as Theofanidis’ The Urgency of Love with the New Haven Chorale, and Handel’s Messiah with Symphoria.
