Tenor Alex Boyer is known for his commanding voice and dramatic portrayals of the Lirico-spinto tenor repertoire. For his Metropolitan Opera debut as Captain Ahab in Moby Dick, Bachtrack noted “American tenor Alex Boyer made a strong company debut in the challenging role. With weighty and beautiful tone, Boyer convincingly conveyed the maniacal captain’s vehemence and anguish…”
In 2026, he portrayed Herod in Salome with Lyric Opera of Chicago, made a role and company debut with Pacific Northwest Opera as Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, and covered Siegfried in Götterdämmerungwith the Atlanta Opera. Upcoming engagements include a return to West Edge Opera as Quint in The Turn of the Screw and covering Laca in Jenůfa with the Metropolitan Opera.
In 2027, Alex sings Don José in Carmen with Opera San Jose, returns to Sacramento Opera for his signature role of Cavaradossi in Tosca, sings Trin in La fanciulla del West with the Metropolitan Opera, and performs Verdi’s Requiem with the Tulsa Symphony.
The 2025 season included covering Cavaradossi in Tosca, Florestan in Fidelio, Tchekalinsky in Pique Dame, and singing Third Jew in Salome at the Metropolitan Opera. He made his company debut with the American Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, covering the title role in Strauss’ Guntram. Alex made a significant role debut as Senator Robert F. Kennedy in the world premiere of Nicolas Benavides’ opera Dolores with West Edge Opera, earning praise from the San Francisco Chronicle, which noted “Boyer was commanding as Robert Kennedy”. He returned to the role for critically reviewed performances with Opera Southwest.
In 2024, he performed Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Modesto Symphony, Puccini’s Messe di Gloria with the Golden Gate Men’s Chorus, and Siegfried in Legend of the Ring with West Edge Opera. He was heard at the San Francisco Opera as Remendado in Carmen, also covering Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera, and joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera covering Ruggero in La Rondine.
Boyer’s 2023 season included appearances as Cavaradossi in Tosca (Opera San Jose, Livermore Valley Opera, Cinnabar Theater) and the Duke in Rigoletto with Opera in the Heights. The tenor also performed Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Idaho Falls Symphony and Tybalt in Romeo et Juliette with Opera San Jose.
Previous engagements include Cassio in Otello with Livermore Valley Opera, Tichon in Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová, Captain Ahab in Moby Dick, and roles with West Edge Opera, Hawaii Opera Theater, Chicago Opera Theater, and San Francisco Opera.
Alex Boyer is an alumnus of the Merola Opera Program and was an apprentice with the Santa Fe Opera. A New York native, Boyer holds degrees from Boston University and the Manhattan School of Music.
